Description

CM800T

The CM800T is a large-diaphragm, 3-pattern tube condenser microphone producing the presence lift heard from the original C800G. A favorite by many Hip Hop and Rap artists.

Capsule

Double-sided, dual back-plate 32mm K67 type capsule with an HF rise similar to the original capsule utilized in the c800g.

Circuit

The circuit is designed around a military spec GE/JAN 5654W tube which is configured the same way as the C800G circuit that used a 6AU6a tube.

We first saw the 6AU6a tube in mantle radios sold in the early 60s and find the 5654W to be of a higher quality and have a more consistent build than the “pedestrian” 6AU6a. The 5654w tube also generates less heat than the 6AU6a and no cooling device is required.

The combination of the K67 capsule response coupled to a pentode tube configured as a triode with no de-emphasis; provides the bright and articulate sound of the C800g.

We also added a -10db pad for close miking of drums, percussion and instrument amps.

This gives the CM800T >6db more headroom than the C800G.

There is also a 100hz switchable rumble (HP filter) accessible at the rear of the microphone.

We were also able to add a Fig 8 option which the C800g did not have while still keeping the passive cardioid polarization of the original C800g.

All components in the CM800T are of higher quality and have better tolerances than those components used in the 1992 designed C800G.

    TRULY AMAZING

This microphone is everything. On other mics we used to spend days mixing vocals just to get them to sound good enough before we could even focus on the fun parts like reverb and delay. Since using this mic, the quality of sound is so good we barely do much with it other than compression and EQ and skip straight to the creative side of the mix. Nothing comes close to it in this price range that we have heard. It’s a powerful mic with a smooth top end. Very modern yet smooth.

    I NEVER SOUNDED LIKE THIS

The most character rich bottom end while having creamy high frequencies, no harsh consonants while preserving unmatched presence. Wow. And the price point kills it.

    CLEAR TONE

Never heard before a microphone so clear and articulate.

For a fraction of a price you get a microphone that sound 5-8 times its price.

Consistent mids and lows, Also The highs are smooth and realy clear without beeing harsh. This is realy important for modern/pop produciton because adding highs on the mixing process tend to make them hard and agressif to the ears. This mic correct this problem giving a sound ready to use.

So no longer fixing stuff. You can now have fun adding effect with no stress afterward

Well after using this microphone on artist signed and unsigned, podcast and other various things because why not I’m here to say one thing. This is one of the best microphones I’ve ever used hands down ands juat delivers in that vocal sound that the world is used to hearing. Clear, professional and solid are just somethings I can say about the sound along with epic and robust. At the end of the day if you’re here looking at this microphone for Hip-Hop or Pop or anything in the relating genres then get this microphone. Period.

    A PHENOMENAL C800G ALTERNATIVE
I have been meaning to leave a review of this masterpiece for some time now. My most recent adventure has been tracking lead vocals for a solo album I’m producing and mixing in the hip hop/pop/RnB vein. I was using a great mic by a local Nashville company that sounded great but lacked a certain amount of clarity or punch in the high-mids. The mic I knew would do the job was a Sony C800G which I most certainly could have rented from BlackBird Audio here in Nashville but from experience with how often I make revisions, I determined it would be more cost effective to purchase an alternative instead.
I’ve followed AA for a while and have gotten very helpful feedback from Dave in the past so when I saw that he was offering a take on this style of microphone I jumped right on it, especially after hearing the shootout on GS. Here’s what blew my mind: When I set it up, cranked the gain on my Avedis MA5 and put on my headphones to run a few passes and test it out, my jaw hit the floor. The transients were fast and open and the sound I was hearing was so punchy and clean. I had the experience some of my buddies have talked about with real C800’s where I almost wanted to talk softer because I’d never heard so much detail or clarity. Completely unreal.
This is the mic to get if you need vocals to cut through a dense mix or simply want them to sit in a song comfortably without having to do much of any plugin-tweaking. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
